Obviously, I am not accusing this fine upstanding group of this.

I am sure you are too far too innocent to even consider this horrendous type of marketing strategy could ever exist.

1)
Making all the “Potential Customer” feel extra special and hinting at their hidden potential undiscovered and unappreciated genius.
.
No matter how inherently “Bad” their writing, actually, was.

2)
Making the more lonely “Potential Customers” feel they have achieved getting into the “Friend Circle” and find it hard to hide your disappointment when they feel they might not be able to join the proper paid for full version of the course.
.
Imply that you are just too busy to meet up with them socially outside of the paid group activities.
.
This is particularly effective for those targets that find it difficult to get any social acceptance.

Upon meeting any fiscally based customer resistance offer them a “Secret mate’s rate” discount that “only applies to them” because you have faith in their talent.

(You are not like all those others who do not realise what they are seeing!)

Trotting out a load of not entirely accurate “Success stories” with the implication that, “They To” could have this experience and validation.

It must be a real struggle for a genuine writer’s group such as yourself to stand out against the backdrop of such horrendous and cold types of bad guys!
.
I could probably help you with that potential problem if you hired me.

But then again you might instead prefer to work with someone that has Empathy and a more Human type soul,

I wonder if any of those previously mentioned “bad guys” are perhaps hiring?
